Windows Screenshot Guide
Learn all the different ways to capture your screen on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
1. Full Screen Screenshot (Print Screen)
Method 1: Save to File
- Press Windows + PrtScn keys simultaneously
- The screen will dim briefly to indicate a screenshot was taken
- Find your screenshot in Pictures > Screenshots folder
Method 2: Copy to Clipboard
- Press the PrtScn key alone
- The screenshot is copied to your clipboard
- Paste (Ctrl+V) into any image editor or document
2. Active Window Screenshot
- Click on the window you want to capture
- Press Alt + PrtScn
- The screenshot is copied to your clipboard
- Paste (Ctrl+V) into any application
3. Snipping Tool & Snip & Sketch
- Press Windows + Shift + S to open Snip & Sketch
- Select your preferred snip type (rectangular, freeform, window, or fullscreen)
- The screenshot is copied to your clipboard
- Edit and save using the notification that appears
Alternatively, search for "Snipping Tool" in the Start menu for more options.
4. Game Bar Screenshots (for games)
- Press Windows + G to open Game Bar
- Click the camera icon or press Windows + Alt + PrtScn
- Find your screenshots in Videos > Captures
Additional Tips
- On some laptops, you may need to press Fn + PrtScn
- For tablets without keyboard: Press Power + Volume Down simultaneously
- Use the Windows Snip & Sketch app for annotation tools
